How Much Does YouTube Pay in 2026?
YouTube pays creators through its Partner Programme (YPP) via AdSense. The amount you earn depends on your CPM (cost per mille — cost per 1,000 ad impressions), your niche, audience geography, and seasonal advertiser demand. YouTube keeps approximately 45% of ad revenue, paying creators the remaining 55%.
CPM vs RPM: What's the Difference?
CPM (Cost Per Mille) is what advertisers pay YouTube for 1,000 ad impressions. RPM (Revenue Per Mille) is what you actually receive per 1,000 views after YouTube's 45% cut. If your CPM is $5, your RPM is approximately $2.75. RPM is the number that actually matters for your income calculations.
Why AdSense Is Just the Start
Top creators typically earn only 20–40% of their income from AdSense. Sponsorships, channel memberships, Super Chats, merchandise, affiliate links, and digital products often dwarf ad revenue. A channel with 100,000 views/month might earn $300–$800 from ads but $2,000–$5,000 from a single brand sponsorship deal.
Requirements for YouTube Monetisation in 2026
Standard YPP requires 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours in the past 12 months. The new lower tier (YPP Lite) requires only 500 subscribers and 3,000 watch hours, giving access to channel memberships and Super Thanks — but not full ad revenue.
